How does Acupuncture work for Headaches and Migraines?
Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that involves the insertion of thin needles at specific points on the body. It has been well researched in the area of headache and migraine relief and prevention.
Acupuncture can address headaches and migraines with a variety of triggers including:
- and unexplained.
A common trigger for headaches and migraines includes tension and acupuncture has been shown to relax muscular tension because acupuncture needles signal the brain (via the nervous system) to direct blood flow to the affected areas. With increased blood flow in the head and neck, acupuncture helps relax the muscles there. This direction of blood flow addresses the physical mechanism causing the tension headache pain.
Over time people notice fewer headaches and migraines as well as less intensity of pain.
